portable jaguar

Postby EVIL NOD » Wed Dec 21, 2011 5:17 pm

have just started a new portable jaguar for goldendark he has sent me the jaguar and i have ordered the rest of
the parts only the ps1 screen has arrived so far.
so i got to it and removed the jaguar from its case and the metal cage it is in then removed the screen from
it case.then wired the jaguar to the screen with RGB it gives the best picture turned it on and bingo it worked 1st
time but with no sound tested the jaguar on my tv before i opened it and all was fine so was the screen.
then after about 30mins
had not wired up the headphone wires.so did that and all was fine.
so here is a pic of it working.
Image
so next job is to remove the RF box and relocate some of the big caps then the dreaded cart slot with its 104 pins
that's 208 solder joints.AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

i have removed the RF box and cart slot and started to rewire the cart slot.
Image
not been able to get a lot done as i have waiting for parts to come .have all so had the Wong items sent
so had to wait for the right 1 to be sent.

finished wiring up the cart slot today.plugged in the game and it worked 1st time
(when i did my 1st jaguar had to rewire it 3 times).
Image
so next job is to finish relocating the caps on the board and then starting on the case.
i have cut out the d pad and button holes ready to go into the front.
Image
need to decide weather to have black buttons or gray ones in the number pad?

i have started to mark out and cut the holes for the controls and screen. i cut out the hole for the number pad
and will be sticking it in with industrial grade superglue but can not do that tonight as i have run out (need to get
some more tomorrow).
and then for any gaps that are left put some filler in and then lots of sanding.
Image
and here is a guide of what it will look like.
Image
had it trim the corners of the number pad board to make it fit.
as you can see there is only just room to fit it all in will allso have to trim 2mm off the sides of the main board
and 3mm off top and bottom.that is as much as can be trimed off of the main boad so this will be the smallest
portable jaguar i can make.

so cut out the rest of the holes in the front of the case
Image
then glued in the control and screen surround.
Image
just need to fill in the gaps with filler then its sanding time.

the front of the case is all most done just a bit more spot fill and sanding then it will be ready for paint
Image
have cut the controller board up ready for putting in the front of the case.
Image
will be installing all the controls and screen in the case next then working on the back.

got a bit more done today rewired a lot of the caps and LED removed the controller ports and worked out
the pin outs for the controller there is 13 wires on the controller.
Image

got all the controls installed today.
Image

got some more done last night wired up all the controller boards to the number pad trimmed down the back of the case and fixed the board and cart slot in place.and fitted the battery in.
Image
Image
here is a pic of the to case half put together
Image
should have this finished my some time next week.
right got the battery all wired up to the on off switch and charge jack.then wired it up to the screen and jag
then turned it on
Image
Image
i allso did a short vid sound is not great on the vid as i did it with my phone

all i have got to do now is paint and fit into the case the charge jack, head phone jackand on off switch

got the case painted tonight put 3 coats on
Image
then put on 1 coat of varnish on
Image
going to put 1 more coat of varnish on in the morning and then when it is dry put it all back together and then
it is finished
